Reclaiming Creative Confidence: Why It Matters for Every Woman
There are mornings when I wake up with a dullness, a heavy weight on my chest.
Like I'm wearing a coat two sizes too small, constricting the very essence of who I am.
A lot of women can relate. And not necessarily because of heartbreak or distress, but because of a deeply rooted silencing of our innate creativity.
Ladies, it's time we sit together for a moment.
Let's circle up, with our messy hair and half-drunk cups of coffee, and admit that somewhere along the line, many of us lost touch with our creative selves. Perhaps it was when someone told us we weren't 'artsy' enough, or when the weight of societal norms dictated we prioritize other roles over our own self-expression.
But, what if I told you that reclaiming this creative confidence isn’t just about producing art?
What if it’s the very essence of rediscovering ourselves, finding our voices, and leading lives that are undeniably ours?
We Were Born Creators
Think back to the first time you ever put pen to paper, molded clay, or sang with wild abandon. There's an inherent magic in the raw, unfiltered creativity of children.
Why?
Because kids don't think in terms of wrongs and rights.
They just are.
They express, they laugh, they cry, they create.
Then at some point along our journeys as women, we were on the receiving end of criticism that had us feeling shame an putting on armor to protect ourselves. That armor also ended up steeling ourselves against our own creativity.
Luckily, that free-spirited child is still there, waiting, hoping for an invitation to come out and play.
Why Reclaiming Creative Confidence Matters
Creativity is more than just producing beautiful things. It's a soulful expression, a way of understanding the world, and most importantly, a path to understanding ourselves.
Suppressing our creativity mutes a part of our essence.
In a world that defaults to putting women in a box with predefined roles, reclaiming our creative confidence becomes a revolutionary act.
It's about challenging the norms, refusing to be pigeonholed, and celebrating our multidimensional, powerful selves.
The Ripple Effect
When one woman stands apologetically in the fullness of her creative power, it’s as if she lights a torch.
That torch illuminates the path for another woman, and another, and another. And soon, we've created an unbreakable chain of women who not only recognize but cherish and wield their power to create.
They become leaders, thinkers, and doers who inspire and enact change.
You Are Worthy
If you’re a woman reading this, doubting your worth or creative abilities, know this:
You were born with a divine right to create, express, and be unabashedly you. The world needs your vision, your voice, and your verve. Remember that, and let it guide you home to yourself.
In the beautiful words of Mary Oliver: "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
Let's choose to live and create fiercely, lovingly, and unapologetically. After all, our creative confidence is a beacon, a rallying cry, for every woman to embrace her innate power.
